Primary lymphedema may be present at birth or develop later in life due to lymphatic malformations or dysfunctions. When should I seek medical treatment for lymphedema?
To decrease the risk of the progression of lymphedema, you should start treatment as soon as possible. This will also reduce your risk for infections like cellulitis. (Cellulitis is a potentially serious bacterial skin infection that may appear swollen, red, hot and/or tender.)
